DRAWING TATTOO

When looking at tattoos, especially tattoos are all created by combining shapes that are similar to knife or sword blades. They look powerful with sharpness and pointed angles. I was quite interesting and decided to create my own one. This tattoo is a combination of 2 animals images : Lion and Cobra. One for power and one for “lightning speed”. I will try to draw it on real body in one day soon.

RED MOON
In my personal opinion, moon represents the sadness and loneliness. The reason I think that is when looking at the moon at night , I just see a single moon between a huge dark sky. It seems to be quite lonely and sad. This is the image that I created in order to show the moon in my mind. Two elements : Loneliness and sadness are both shown. I used red ( the color of sunset scene ) and black to represent “sadness”. The image of standing man near the tree ( all in black color) to represent “loneliness”.

CASUAL INTERESTING MISTAKE

This is the picture that I took in the Terry Fox marathon. The picture is the performance of traditional Vietnamese drums. Because I still kept moving the camera when taking the picture, it blurred ( in vertical rhythm) . However, when I viewed it, I found there is an interesting point :the direction of the blur line is the same to the direction of the drummers’ arm. It make the picture seem to be more exciting and emotional

COMPOSITION

Composition is the plan, placement or arrangement of the elements of art work. The general purpose of composition is selecting and placing appropriate elements within the work in order to communicate ideas and feeling with the viewer. By applying visual elements of Composition, I took a picture and analyses it. Firstly, the picture of the old vendor is taken from her back. In addition , although, the size of the main object( the vendor) is smaller than the total size of the picture( it s not closed), the vendor is focused very much because she is placed at the center of the picture. Secondly, the line of houses or walls around the vendor to make the viewers ’ eyes focus more to the vendor. Thirdly, the area around picture is old houses has emphasizes the word “poverty” of the picture. Finally, the value of lightness is not high in the picture, it shows the time of the very early morning when poor people start their work.

GOODBYE GIRL PICTURE

When I was wondering what topic will be posted for my blog this week, i stopped a few minutes to listen to music. Fortunately and coincidently, when listening to the song “Goodbye girl”, I decided to make a picture to express the its content. The picture shows a man who is sleeping under a night sky with many stars. On the other hand, he is sleeping without worrying or sadness. It a silent and peaceful feeling. Take a look and listen to this song, you will understand the song ‘s emotion.

WEBSITE BANNER

In this week , I have an assignment about creating a complete website in web construction subject. In this website, besides programming, there is also marks for design.

This is the banner and logo that I designed for my own website name : “Job paradise”. The Logo was created simply by using 2 letters J( for Job) and P( for paradise). In the main area, I just used the pictures of business men and women and group them together. The background of the banner is blue and white because this is the color of working uniforms . For that reason, the website will become more closed and friendly to people.

FLASH ASSIGNMENT

This is the flash that I made for the assignment 2C. The font I choose is Bernhard Modern. This is a elegant and formal font that is often used for invitations or greeting cards. For that reason , choosing music and images background follow these characteristics of this font.

CIRCLES AND MUSIC

This week, when I saw advertising shows about music on TV. I was very interested in music posters or flashes which were made by illustrator. One thing I liked best was the way people using circles with many colors and size, these circles were really impressive and represented well all the elements of the word “Music” such as : excitement, flying feeling .etc . In my opinion, there are reasons why people often choose colorful circles for music posters. Firstly,I think the shape of the circles are similar to the shapes of CDs or Speakers surface. In addition, a group of circles with different sizes looks like bubbles are flowing up, this element shows the flying feeling of music. This is a CD cover that I tried to make by using colorful circles and lines.

CAMERA TECHNIQUES

On Friday, I studied about Camera techniques. There are many camera techniques depend on specific effects or purposes. Kill Bill is one of my favorite movies. In this part, I want to mention about the first scenes before the battle. Firstly, the camera zooms in quickly to the man’s face who is yelling and after that zooms out to show the wider scenes in order to show the crowds of gangsters. Secondly, the movie uses “Tilt” technique to drag slowly form legs to head of the man who is wearing mask. Finally , Dolly technique is applied to show the gangsters who are running behind the doors.

BERNHARD MODERN FONT

Bernhard Modern was designed by Lucian Bernhard in 1973 and was first cut by American Type Founders. , Bernhard Modern seems to presage the demise of letterpress printing and the eventual rise of digital typography. Witness this comment on the typeface by its designer, Lucian Bernhard: “My aim was to get all the spice and contrast into the contour ... without counting on the ink spread.”

Bernhard Modern is an unusual face with small lowercase but very tall ascenders and short descenders. Bernhard Modern was intended to hold its color and contrast without depending on the spread of ink of the letterpress method. It has an attractive pen drawn quality which has made it a popular choice for invitations and greetings cards. The Bernhard Modern font is useful for advertising and display work.

PORTRAIT AS A MACHINE

This is my assignment a2a. the purpose of this assignment is creating a collage machinery face. The images that I used for the collage are Multimedia devices such as : speaker, digital mixer, condenser microphone, wires, memory cards, digital cameras. I really like digital devices, especially devices for multimedia system, that is the reason why I chose them.

EXPRESS FEELING

This is the picture I made by Photoshop program. I took the picture of myself, a street light and cropped them after that. In this picture, I expressed my feeling. The feeling of loneliness, boredom and exhaustion.

PUBLIC WELFARE POSTER

This is a public welfare poster about Penicillin. Translated into English: Penicillin- A knife has 2 blades- right using, end disease-wrong using, dandergous- using penicillin follows doctor’s instruction. In this poster, there are many good points. Firstly, the fonts is big enough for eyes catching, especially the world” KHANG SINH”( Penicillin) . Secondly, the meaning of the slogan is short, obvious and easy to understand and remember. Especially when using Popular Vietnamese Idiom : “ A knife has 2 blades” ( to show something that has both bad and good way). Finally, the picture is consistent with the message of the poster. However, the red slogan at the bottom” using penicillin follows doctor’s instruction” is quite small. By the way, this is an effective poster.

TYPOGRAPHY EXERCISE

This class, when we learned about typography, the lesson made me realize and understand that, every fonts have its own meaning, not just difference in outsides look. One word can be represented in different meanings when using different fonts. We have exercise after class about this, I choose the word “Spark” for the exercise.

1- In the first one, I used Brush Script Std font. The main idea in this one is “spark” in car racing, car engineer. It has the meaning of “power” and “speed”.

2- In the second one, I used Futura XBlk BT font . The main idea in this one is “spark” in idea, exactly is new idea. This font has the meaning of “great” and “ wonderful”.

3- In the final one, I used Weltron Urban font. The main idea in this one is “spark” in the excitement of Rock Music. This font has the meaning of “ wild” and “ crazily exciting”

COLLAGE EXERCISE- BLIND LADDER

Collage is an artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color and create 1 single meaning picture. I love this style of artist because it ‘s quite easy to make, you don’t need to draw well. The only thing you need is idea and how to show your idea. With the support of Photoshop, this work is become easier. This is my idea. It name “Blind Ladder”.

PHOTOSHOP EXERCISE – JUDGMENT DAY

Last Tuesday, I had an Photoshop exercise. This exercise was very interesting, because by using simple pictures, after applying some effects in Photoshop, I can create impressive pictures in my own way. I applied this exercise to show my idea “ Judgment day”. In the Development of electronic technology, human life is becoming more advantageous, however, there are also disadvantages, people are becoming depend very much on machine, the environment is also being destroyed by modern technology. One day, human life will be ended by themselves. I took my own picture, edited( change level of the town scene to make it darker, crop the sky and replace eyes, change color of eyes, create thunder, etc) to create the picture of “Judgment day”.

MY SHADOW MAKING

This week , I learned how to make a basic shadow manually not by available tools such as filter in Photoshop. I realized that making a shadow of a picture by our self is more real than using available tool because we can control the picture flexibly. I tried at home.
Firstly, I used pen tool to crop the picture, cope 1 more cropping picture. In the copied picture, I used level board to make it completely black and after that used blur tool to make it blur. After that , I used transform/distort to make the shape of the black shadow change depends on the direction of the light, make it feel suitable with the main picture. Finally , I used layer style/ gradient to make the shadow gradient ( dark in the bottom and light in the top of the shadow).Complete.

ORCHIDARIUM CARD

In class, we had an interesting exercise about creating a card for Orchidarium. The requirement of this card is it have to be simple but chic. After cropping the orchid by pen tool in Photoshop, I created this card in Illustrator. Because the colour of the orchid is pink, I decided to choose black colour for the background in order to make the orchid more impressive. The colour of the name “Orchidarium” is yellow because this colour is also one of colours in orchids and the yellow “Orchidarium” will be easy to read on the main black background and part of the orchid background. In the information part, I choose white colour, especially, the name “Michael Speaks” is in dark orange colour .

SELF GRAFFITI

When looking at posters of CD cover of singers, especially hip-hop bands. I feel very interested in the ways they use graffiti and black color. On the other hand, when viewing a blog of Bui Nguyen Tung ( my class mate) , there is a small lesion about how to create a simple graffiti . Finally, I decided to make self poster by combining between my own style( using black and red color) and graffiti. At first, I use illustrator to create my name in “wildstyle” graffiti (a form of graffiti involving interlocking letters, arrows, and connecting points). Then, I took my own picture, using photoshop to edit it looks like a painter. In the background, I choose black color and 2 lines( one is red which represents for fire, one is blue which represents for ice)

GESTALT EXERCISE

After studying about Gestalt Theory for Designing, we have a practice exercise: using available images and text to illustrate 2 following concept : proximity and closure. Because the title “ The secret life of plants”, I decide to represent 2 ideas: plants and sex. Firstly, I decide to make the title lie on the curve, I mean sexy curve and make it look like the body of the flower. Available images are clipped mask to shapes of flowers ‘ petals. On the other hand , the curve of shape of the paragraphs are also made to follow the curve of the title.

RHYTHM of THE TROJAN

This is my own simple flash animation about Trojan Rhythm. As we know, Trojan, Virus , or other spyware are one of our concern especially with people who work with computers. In some attractive website, the probability of spyware infection is very high. I am really annoying and angry when my PC is infected by Virus. For that reason, I decide to made the flash, using sound that I recorded especially signal sounds in computer when infected, images of the computer screen and after that connecting them together to create an annoying rhythm of sound and I think that all of people who often work with computer hate this sound very much.( you can also view in this link : http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t218/s3146097duy/flash.swf )

THE SUN AND MOON

When thinking about 2 subjects: the sun and moon. The first thing I think about them is the opposition. And then, the familiar thing about opposition I image is Yin-Yang theory. For that reason, when required to draw the pictures about the sun and the moon, I decide to draw them in the way that is related to the Yin-Yang theory. Yin-Yang theory is the Ancient Chinese philosophy. There are 6 mains concept in this theory:

1- Yin and Yang include each other: which means nothing yin or yang perfectly. Everything have it own opposition.

2- Yin and Yang are interdependent: which means Ying can not exist without Yang and the opposite way

3- Yin and Yang can be further subdivided into other Yin and Yang.

4- Yin and Yang consume and support each other

5- Yin can transform into Yang and the opposite way

6- Yin is part of Yang and the opposite way

Summarize 6 main elements, 2 things that strongly influent me is : everything has 2 ways and in 1 way also has the another opposite way. So I apply this concept to draw the pictures of the sun and the moon. The moon and the sun can not exist singly and in the moon there is sun and in the sun there is moon.

VIETNAMESE CULTURE

When thinking about Vietnam, people will image an eastern country with traditional custom. However, in the modern life, there are many things about Vietnam culture changed depending on position, life condition, each family and each person. In the northern of Vietnam. People are very formal, the traditional ways of communication in the relationship between people are still being kept for example : younger people have to respect older people, especially their teachers, parents and grandparents. In addition, the concept of “ honor” is very important with people in the northern of Vietnam. Similarly, people in the middle of Vietnam are also very formal. Because the influence of custom from Nguyen dynasty, the living ways of people, especially elite class, seems to be very strict and annoying. Especially, one of the good characteristic of people in the middle of Vietnam is hard working. Finally, people in Vietnam have characteristics and traditional custom which are very unique. Because the natural condition in southern of Vietnam is very good, the characteristic and culture of the southern Vietnam is very various and generous. In my opinion, Vietnam has a special traditional culture. However, in the modern city, people are losing their own culture and the western culture is replacing, especially with young people when in the western countries have opposite way. My living way is keeping good elements of traditional culture, especial classical ways. However, I always try to find and trying new modern things and after that try to combine them together and this is not only my living ways, I also combine these elements in my fashion styles, my designs and decoration.

DEVIL VS JUSTICE

In our life, there are many attractions such as beautiful girls or handsome boys, money, delicious foods, nice clothes, nice cars, etc. These attraction often makes people follow and achieve them blindly even achieve them with any cost includes crime. Sometimes, people hesitate about their decision. There are an invisible competition between attraction and determination, devil and justice. When watching some movies ,especially cartoons, I often saw there will be 2 contrast characters( 1 demon and 1 angel) appear when a person in the hesitation. Now, I try to create one by using my pictures and images.
